My Journey
Personal Experiences with Grief and Loss
My path to becoming a therapist was profoundly shaped by personal experiences with grief and loss. Like many of you, I’ve faced life-altering challenges that tested my resilience and forever changed my perspective on healing and growth.
The most transformative experience of my life came when my beloved wife, Sarah, was diagnosed with cancer.
For three years, we navigated the turbulent waters of her illness together. Through countless doctor’s appointments, grueling treatments, and moments of both hope and despair, I found myself not just in the role of a supportive husband, but also as someone grappling with intense emotions and uncertainty.
Finding Meaning and Purpose
When Sarah passed away, I was plunged into a depth of grief I had never known before. The world as I knew it had shattered, and I found myself struggling to find meaning and purpose in the aftermath of such a profound loss. It was during this dark period that I truly understood the power of therapy and emotional support.
With the help of my own therapist and a supportive community, I slowly began to rebuild my life. I learned that grief is not a linear process, but a complex journey of healing that requires patience, self-compassion, and often, professional guidance.
This experience ignited a passion within me to help others navigate their own emotional landscapes, especially those dealing with grief, loss, and life transitions.
❝ Stop being a critic and be a light; don't be a judge, be a model.
I think we are far too critical. I think the best way to correct behavior is to accentuate and affirm positive behavior and to ignore negative behavior.
Generally speaking, there is a time to correct, of course; but my biggest advice would be, 'Affirm your child. ❞
– Sean Covey

Professional Experience Across Diverse Settings
Correctional Facilities
At Riverbend Maximum Security Prison, I developed and performed mental health assessments on inmates, many of whom exhibited serious mental health issues. I was responsible for suicide monitoring and prevention, maintaining a delicate balance between safety and mental health care in a high-stress environment.
Military and Veterans
As a Military Family Life Counselor at Camp Lejeune and Ansbach Army Base, I provided support to service members and their families. I addressed issues such as PTSD, deployment stress, family separation, and reintegration challenges. I also conducted suicide prevention classes and helped Marines develop effective coping skills.
Chronic Pain Management
At the Nashville Pain and Stress Clinic and Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation Center, I worked with patients dealing with chronic pain. I implemented innovative approaches like NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP) and conducted both individual and group therapy sessions to help patients manage their pain and improve their quality of life.
Brain Injury and Neuropsychology
At Rebound, Inc., I worked with patients who had suffered closed and open head injuries. I performed cognitive assessments and remediation, helping patients recover and adapt to their new circumstances. This experience honed my skills in neuropsychological testing and cognitive rehabilitation.
Managed Care and Special Needs
During my time at Magellan Health Services, I worked as a Care Manager and Special Case Manager. I conducted and supervised inpatient and outpatient psychiatric programs and worked with families with special needs, ensuring they received appropriate and effective care.
Rural Mental Health
With Behavioral Management Consultants, I provided mental health services to underserved rural communities. I performed psychological assessments, conducted therapy sessions, and served as a professional consultant to non-licensed clinical staff in rural clinics.
Outpatient and Hospitalization
At Pasadena Villa Outpatient Treatment Center, I worked with adult clients who had experienced trauma and were transitioning from inpatient care or had not succeeded in traditional outpatient treatment. I helped patients with complex psychiatric disorders develop life skills and social competencies to integrate back into their lives as outpatients.
This diverse experience has taught me that healing and growth can occur in any setting and at any stage of life. It has reinforced my belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the power of compassionate, personalized care.
Whether you’re dealing with trauma, chronic pain, life transitions, or any other mental health challenge, I bring this wealth of experience to our sessions, tailoring my approach to meet your unique needs and goals.
